Educational equity means ensuring that each child has the resources, teachers, interventions, and supports that they need to be successful. For far too long, the zip code a student lives in has determined his or her potential for educational success. These inequities particularly disadvantage many of the nation’s districts where low-income students, students of color, students with disabilities, and English-language learners make up a significant part of the population. Our public schools must provide the knowledge and skills that students need to succeed. States and school districts have an obligation to provide every resource necessary to students, teachers, schools, parents, and families so that children can meet and exceed high standards and graduate high school ready for college or a career. Parents, caregivers, families, and local stakeholders must be at the forefront of advocating for equity and holding school systems accountable to ensuring every child graduates high school college- and career-ready. This training was developed to educate, equip, encourage, and empower you to advocate for greater education equity in your community. We hope that you find the training to be useful, informative, and impactful.
