🏫 School Board Enthusiasts 🏫 The UnifiEd Student Voice Team's School Board Blog Policy Board Meeting:
I [Carson] really enjoy Policy Board Meetings. They serve as a great look behind the scenes, in theatre terms, as to what it takes to run a school system from a legal perspective. 🏫 School Board Enthusiasts 🏫 The UnifiEd Student Voice Team's School Board Blog Overview:
The School Board and County Commission met in a joint meeting on July 23rd to discuss the possibility of a ten year facilities master plan. This was only the preliminary discussion, so the plan is still very malleable and receptive to change. You can see the full details of this preliminary plan here. This will become especially evident as the steps progress to community input meetings around September. The goals of this plan are to: 🏫 School Board Enthusiasts 🏫 The UnifiEd Student Voice Team's School Board Blog This meeting is a work session, so it lacks the typical recognitions and introductions of a typical meeting. Additionally, nothing is voted on at this meeting so all discussion is for the purpose of revising documents and policies that are in the works and not for the purpose of debating on how to vote on something. The past few meetings we’ve blogged about typically had a big issue or two that were being discussed during the meeting; however, this meeting really didn’t. The biggest ‘issue’ in this meeting and the topic with the most conversation was the calendar for 2020-2021. That said, there were some really inspiring moments in the meeting in the recognitions section, the Future Ready 2023 end of year presentation, and the consent agenda. 🏫 School Board Enthusiasts 🏫 The UnifiEd Student Voice Team's School Board Blog Overview
Essentially this meeting was a slightly abbreviated version of the budget presentation made to the school board with community “questions”. There were some new aspects presented which appeared to have the purpose of addressing recent concerns from the public. Granted, these aspects may have originated at the county commission presentation (which I [Carson] was unable to attend due to the timing of the meeting conflicting with school) instead of the community meeting, but I am unsure. Either way, these new items put the budget into somewhat of a new perspective. The other part of the meeting was comprised of community thoughts and questions, although the former was considerably more common.
