Intro (Liliana):
The June School Board meeting started off with the pledge to the flag by Mr. Williams, Principal of Dalewood Middle School. Afterwards, the new district athletic director Mr. James recognized this year's state champions from track and field and wrestling from HCS. These schools included Soddy-Daisy high, Signal Mountain High, Brainerd High, Tyner Academy, and East Hamilton High. After the recognition, during The presentation for Future-Ready 2023 the main discussion was about accelerating student achievement and what some focuses and goals were going to be. The resolution to fund SSOs (school security officers) in schools was discussed, and to place at least one SSO or SRO (school resource officer)in every single Hamilton County school. At the end of this School Board meeting, there were three delegations with two being parents discussing bullying happening to their child and one teacher discussing safety with students and funding for that safety. Hi! I’m Jada, an upcoming Senior at East Ridge High School. I’m outgoing, determined, and a hard worker who enjoys having fun and living life to the fullest. I maintain a 4.0 and I’m in the running for valedictorian for the class of 2023. I’m involved with the National Honor Society, National Beta Club, Student Superintendent Advisory Board, the Upward Bound program, and am currently the captain of the ERHS Cheer Team.
A huge goal of mine in life is to help those in need and become a person people can rely on. I plan to continue on my journey in the healthcare field to eventually become a travel nurse and help those on a widespread scale. I want to know that I’m making a difference even if it’s one person at a time, I’m up for the challenge. I’ve noticed and learned that within the healthcare field diversity is everywhere! Nurses, doctors, surgeons, and more interact with people of different races, genders, religions, and other aspects that make them unique. However, how is one supposed to evolve in an environment with so many different types of personalities and differences? Luckily, I’ve had the opportunity to attend East Ridge High School, where every class is diverse. Since attending ERHS, I’ve learned the significance of diversity and how it contributes to my overall wellbeing and learning. Diversity is very important, whether one knows it or not. Due to my exposure to different cultures, languages, and perspectives, I’ve expanded my knowledge and allowed myself to open my mind to many different ideas. Diversity allows people to agree to disagree about certain topics, compromise about certain issues, and gain the ability to understand others. Overall, I believe diversity is beneficial and necessary in schools and communities for everyone to experience and come to love. It is also paramount for our future and how we learn to interact with others around us. Being a part of UnifiED’s Student Voice Team, I hope that I can carry out my goals and push for diversity for the betterment of everyone. I’m very grateful that I have been given the opportunity to even be in this position not only for myself, but for my family, friends, and community. I strive for our generation to be the ones who challenge the rules of inequality and push for a better future for everyone. While at Unifi-Ed, I hope to work towards making my goals possible while gaining helpful skills and experience that will help me along the way. |
