The past few meetings we’ve blogged about typically had a big issue or two that were being discussed during the meeting; however, this meeting really didn’t. The biggest ‘issue’ in this meeting and the topic with the most conversation was the calendar for 2020-2021. That said, there were some really inspiring moments in the meeting in the recognitions section, the Future Ready 2023 end of year presentation, and the consent agenda.
Essentially this meeting was a slightly abbreviated version of the budget presentation made to the school board with community “questions”. There were some new aspects presented which appeared to have the purpose of addressing recent concerns from the public. Granted, these aspects may have originated at the county commission presentation (which I [Carson] was unable to attend due to the timing of the meeting conflicting with school) instead of the community meeting, but I am unsure. Either way, these new items put the budget into somewhat of a new perspective. The other part of the meeting was comprised of community thoughts and questions, although the former was considerably more common.
In the coming weeks there will be a community-wide discussion of the proposed budget for Hamilton County Public Schools. We need you to join the discussion!
Members of the Hamilton County Commission will be holding public meetings across the County to hear from the community and gauge support for increasing resources for public education. It is critical that you show up and voice your support.
Here is a list of the upcoming meetings:
